When we started the novel The Skin I'm In by Sharon G. Flake, students asked if I liked the book. I reserved my opinion because I didn't want to color your opinions. I wanted you to read the book and make your own decisions. Reading a book is such an individual experience and it should not be spoiled by other's thoughts or anyone ruining the ending. Now that we have read the book, we have some varying ideas. Some of us liked it; some of us did not. A few were very vocal about their feelings in class and others had strong feelings, but did not want to voice them in class. Here is your opportunity to let your thoughts be known. Let us know what you liked, disliked, would change, etc. and why. I think it will be fun to continue our discussions on the web.

i hated the book. it was rushed at the end and it wasnt very discriptive. i hated everything that maleeka did, if anyone bossed me arrowd like that theyd be dead in 5 seconds. the way it all ended was with maleeka standing up for herself one time, only one time, what a huge change oh wow... the book was racist as well it was talking about skin color but it doesnt really matter what your skin color is.

i liked the book up untill the last few chapters. i felt the end mixed all the important things toghter then left them out in the open. it almost seemed like sharon flake got bored of writting and threw all the stuff toghter in 3 chapters. i also think the book was racist, but made alot of good mention on the racisim going on in schools. ps mrs. dp pleeeeeeeeease tell your middle name.
This book is so close to real life. The fights, the language, and there are some schools out there like the one in this book.I liked the book but the ending wasn't what I expected.

I hated the book. I thought maleeka should have stood up for herself on the bus and shouldnt have begged to be chars "friend." Caleb shouldnt have ditched Maleeka he should have stood up for her. The was to much going on in the last few chapters. The olny thing i liked was how she stood up for herself ot the end.

I like the book until the ending. I feel as she rushed the book like Mrs. Saunders did to her students. The ending didn't interest me as much as the rest of the book. I really thought Caleb should've protected Maleeka on the bus. As for Maleeka, she should've talked to Char that way many times in the book than just once. I book was pretty racist.

the book was an ok book. it was close to schools now, peer pressure, cliches, and bullys. maleeka had bad clothes and the only way that she had good clothes was to do char's every wish. the reason that char bullied maleeka is becuz juju bullied char. the book got kind of boring at the end though becuz all they were talking about was trying to get maleeka to tell who helped for about 2 whole chapters. and they didnt tell if char really was at her grandparents house. is the book "To Be Continued..."? ~:-\

i thought that the book was okay. i enjoyed reading it, but i wouldnt do so again. i also think that mrs. saunders showed some favoritism toward maleeka.

i liked the book. i thought that it was cool. i think that it teaches people to be proud of who they are. also to stand up for themselves.

I hated this book. I felt that it had no point to reading it at all. When Maleeka actually stood up for herself it was at the end which was ONCE? It felt rushed too, and the ending wasnt good at all.
i liked the part when maleeka told char off it was really cool. and i like how it told the poems.

i hated the book at some parts and liked it at other parts and i would have not let char boss me around and force me to burn money in a teachers class room ☺☻☺☻☺☻☺☻☺☻☺☻♠♣♦◘•○ (0703JOEY)
I didn't like the book because I thought it was boring because in the beginning all she did was get picked on and cry instead of standing up for herself and at the ending she finally stand up for herself but I think everybody thought that was going to happen. The ending should of been more unespected.
i liked the book. Im glad that char got sent to another school and maleeka ended up with caleb. The two things i didnt like was the favoritism between ms.saunders and maleeka, and the racism in the book.
I liked the book The Skin Im In. I thought it had a good message and that whoever reads it will realize that it doesn't matter what color your skin is you are just like they are. I would reccomend this book to someone else.

I'm didn't like this book because the author left serveral holes/blanks in this story. The things I would change is how maleeka acted throughtout the story. I would have made it a little more intersting meaning I would have Maleeka stand up to Charlese, the Twins and everyone on the bus that made fun of her.

i thought the book was okay. it was not as interesting for me because i have not had any experiences like maleeka's, so i could not relate. it did open my eyes to things that people have to deal with on a daily basis, though.

The skin I am In is about a girl who gets picked on for being too black. It was a good book overall but at times it was ver misleading. You think that maleeka would end up becoming friends with john-john whose life she saved.Instead maleeka ended up becoming better friends with caleb.
wish it didn't end the way it did
I thought "The Skin I'm In" was a pretty well written book. I thought the details were great and the story line was fantastic. And i liked how some of the stuff in the book was very realistic. For example: Maleeka being bullied and threatend. But, i felt as if the ending was rushed.
I really did not like the book when it started off but it got better as the story went on it wasn’t my favorite book but I would put it as a good one. I really didn’t like how char bossed maleeka around I thought that was really rood. And I also thought that Mrs. Saunders played sides and that was like you’re the teachers pet don’t talk to me and you would get made fun of but it all worked out in the end when maleeka and Caleb were together and she didn’t worry about char and john-john is nice now so it was pretty good.

I liked this book i thought is was unique and was compared to how some peoples lifes are.
It was just like other schools sometimes and the life styles and the bullys and groups that people hang out with. It actually showed readers how people live their life and how bad people have it sometimes. Also how people should be thamkful that they live in a good place and havce the money that they have and everything that they have.

I liked most of the book because the characters were my age therefore they were easy to relate to. The only part I disliked was the last couple of chapters because they weren't as interesting as the rest of them.
I abosolutly Loved this book, because I think that there is a maleeka in all of us. And we just don't know how to handle the things that maleeka did but now we can finally go to bed at night and stop worrying about tomorrow. I think the way Maleeka handled things made her like superwoman and nothing could stop her.

I thought it was okay the only good thing that i could get from the book is it does show things that are actually happening around the u.s. in the schools

yeahh. alrightt.
uhmmm. i liked the book at the beginning. more into the story i began to strongly dislike it because it got so boring when mrs saunders and maleeka were talking about pointless nonsense. i mean whoo evenn freaking caresss. and also, the ending was all thrown together in like 3 chapters and everything was rushed with no details at all. i dislike this book as of the day i finished reading it. and i think that makeeka should have punched char in the freaaaking face. ugh. this causes me anger.
thank you very much.
i am now stressed. :)
